Paige's teaching experience is incredibly diverse, having worked with dancers of varying ages, skill-levels, and abilities from soloists to large groups. She has choreographed, directed, and set pieces on football fields, basketball courts, and of course, the stage. She is proficient in many styles of dance including ballet, modern, lyrical, jazz, contemporary, hip hop, and a Texas fan-favorite, high kick.
Paige's teaching philosophy focuses on the needs of the learner, with a mindset that asks: What will give the learner the best chance of absorbing, retaining, and executing the movement? And, are we having fun?
Teaching Curriculum Focusses:
- Present clear musical direction using counts, rhythm, and lyrics accurately and consistently.
- Teach movement in the simplest way possible. (Sometimes that involves breaking down the movement into small digestible bits. Sometimes it means showing the movement, knowing the dancers will copy without needing a detailed break-down.)
- Use familiar metaphors that encourage a dancer to utilize muscle memory of pedestrian movement to execute a new dance step.
- Demonstrate movement in various ways including mirroring.
- Attach emotion, story-telling, and style to the movement as part of the learning process.
- Focus on dance as art, expression, and fun, allowing us to experiment, practice vulnerability, and offer ourselves growth and grace.
- Apply generous doses of humor. :)
